my anniviers geocaches

Lac de la Bayenna

After David mentioned going by Lac de la Bayenna last week it was on my mind to go and enjoy the autumn colours up there under the Moiry glacier. The small lake, barely a pond really, is a great spot and while we sat having a sandwich I decided to place a geocache there.

I’d got a complete spare cache in rucksack after visiting a couple of my other Anniviers caches so it was just a case of finding a spot and logging it at geocaching.com. The cache will be coded as GC2F8GP once it’s fully approved. I’ve tagged it not reachable in winter but thinking about it now I’d say it is reachable, you can use a ski tour route over the pointe de tsate, in fact I’ve skied part of it myself, but it’s a fairly serious undertaking unless you’re an experienced ski mountaineer. I think practically it would be buried too deep anyway.

Our route took us on a traverse high up over the valley before hitting the Alpage des Torrents where we dropped down to the lake and returned to the car.

Placed Geocache GC26CZ9 – L’Iretta, Val d’Anniviers

Another geocache placement, this time on the west side of the val d’Anniviers above the village of St-Jean. The cache is near a track that run along the hill side giving great views of the whole valley. It’s also opposite the cache GCJYJG (Gillou) although GCJYJG is about 200m higher up the hillside, you do get a clear a view of GCJYJG from here though.

Geocache GC26B71 – fours à chaux, Val d’Anniviers

I’d blogged about geocaching recently and mentioned a couple of geocaches I’d logged visits to but I decided to go one step more and place a cache. There’s the remains of some old ovens just down the road in Zinal dating from the 1800′s which are next to a river, I’ve mentioned the location previously in fact. This looked like a great location for a cache so I placed one there earlier and submitted it to geocaching.com for listing and they’ve just added it to the directory.
