Les Fourgs Nordic Skiing

We had been going nordic skiing yesterday but the driving conditions were so terrible that I turned back just after joining the autoroute, I think that’s the first time ever that I’ve done that which ought to give an idea of how terrible the driving conditions were. Partly, of course, I knew the conditions were supposed to better today. In the event, conditions were even better than I expected today, I’d expected a slightly overcast day with maybe some light snow and temperatures around minus 10′c but in the event the sun was out and the cold air temperatures felt quite pleasant.

Obviously the work you’re doing nordic skiing is a lot higher than downhill skiing so staying warm in these temperatures isn’t too hard as long as you’re moving and out of the wind.
It turns out that Les Fourgs wasn’t actually open today, the bulletin hadn’t been posted when we left so I didn’t know until I got home. But, they’d prepared the trails earlier today so it only meant that there was no ski patrol or anyone to sell ski tickets although as we’ve got season passes that didn’t make a difference to us. In fact, there was a few people skiing and I’ll bet they were all local with season passes as well.

Les Fourgs
I was over at Les Fourgs on Monday for some nordic skiing and thought we’d pop over today for a snowshoe tour in the same area. When I’d been skiing I’d seen a few signs for “Sapin PrĂ©sident” and wondered what it was so we went to take a look. Not surprisingly it’s a tree! Quite a big tree in fact and one that’s around 450 years old.
I’d no idea who Edgar Faure was but he’s a local politician who died in 1988 having occupied a number of high offices such as Prime Minister and President of France and several positions in the legislatures of thelocal departments.
